In the spirit of Constitution Day and to aid in the fulfillment of Public Law 108-447 Sec. 111 Division J - SEC. 111(b), which states that all levels of educational institutions receiving federal funds are required to educate students on our U.S. Constitution, the State Bar Young Lawyers Division organizes a public education program that provides participating New Mexico fifth-grade classes with U.S. Constitution booklets to keep and an educational lesson from a New Mexico attorney. The State Bar of New Mexico invites New Mexico high school juniors and seniors to participate in the annual State Bar Student Essay Contest. Written each year by a lawyer, the topic deals with a relevant legal issue targeted to students. A panel of sitting judges will evaluate the finalist essays, picking three winners. Prizes of up to $1,000 are sponsored by Modral, Sperling, Roehl, Harris, & Sisk PA. Click here for more information.
The State Bar of New Mexico’s Legal Programs and Services Committee hosts the Breaking Good Video Contest for all New Mexico high school students. The goal of the Contest is to provide students with an opportunity to share their creative and artistic talents while learning about non-profit civil legal service providers in their community and sharing that knowledge with others. Through their work, they will be able to help educate others about non-profit civil legal service providers. The State Bar may use entries as public service announcements. Prizes are awarded up to $1,000 by Ron Bell Personal Injury Lawyers of Albuquerque and the Rodey Law Firm. Click here for more information.
